In my previous blog post I was talking about why it’s important to dress up your dog, this time I would like to note what type of garments are worth choosing.
There is a large selection of fabrics in pet apparel. The most important factors while choosing dog apparel are: the comfort of your dog, and knowing the purpose of the fabric.
It’s comfortable, soft, lightweight, breathable and flexible, that’s why the majority of baby clothes are made from cotton as well. Cotton also provides warmth when it’s cooler, which is another important feature.
Spandex is a great option when mixed with another fabric, for example – cotton. That is my favorite combination. Clothes that are made from this particular combination are stretchy and very comfortable for dogs. Cotton provides warmth but doesn’t overheat the pet, and spandex makes the dog feel very comfortable and doesn’t restrict any movements.
Polyester is good for garments, such as: jackets, overcoats and raincoats, because it’s water-repellent and also light. If you are looking for winter or autumn garments for your pet – polyester fabric is a good option, it will keep your pet dry and warm. Polyester and cotton combination is also a good option for winter or autumn, because it provides warmth as well.
Linen clothes are excellent for dogs during summer, it’s light and breathable, so the dog won’t overheat. For example, linen bandanna is a great accessory during summer season. Pet clothing made from linen protects from direct sunlight and sunburns, without causing any extra heat, which is very important. Cotton is also a great option for summer clothing. And YES, DOGS GET SUNBURNED TOO!
As I said in the beginning – the most important factors while choosing dog apparel are: the comfort of your dog, and knowing the purpose of the fabric – which after this blog post, you already know!
